Nowadays, "waiting lists" conjure up worrying images of the NHS and much needed treatments that we want NOW but we must try to be a patient patient!
With some groups in the u3a having restricted numbers for various reasons, like the size of the venue, or the optimum number for the subject covered by a group, in such cases other members interested in those groups are invited to put their names on a waiting list
However, unlike the NHS, u3a waiting lists should be viewed as a good thing - an opportunity.
Yet, it seems that instead they are viewed negatively and as a barrier not worth climbing over.
Waiting lists with more names on the list are a good sign - a great indicator that u3a members are interested in exploring new subjects.
And, if there are sufficient names on a waiting list then perhaps new groups could be started.
