Group Leaders: Doreen Somerville and Dee Ramsay
Scottish Heritage typically gathers on the third Wednesday of each month at the Abbeyview Community Hub, Dunfermline for talks, or at the designated visit venue at 2pm unless otherwise notified. The group organises 10 events annually from September to June and as a member-led group, each individual commits to organizing one of the monthly meetings or outings. Members also try to attend most meetings to ensure participation and support.
The annual program features a diverse range of topics related to Scottish Heritage, including architecture, legends, social, commercial, and cultural history, along with other subjects that embody Scotland's past, present, and future.
Over the past three years we have had visits to the East Neuk Salt Company, museums in Dunfermline, Perth and St Andrews, The Georgian House in Edinburgh and The Tenement House in Glasgow. We've also had successful visits to Roslyn Chapel, Culross Palace, Balgownie Farm, Burntisland Church and the Kelpies. Our walking tours have taken in charming Charlestown and the iconic Royal Mile.
Our wide ranging presentations have covered the Witches of Fife, From the Culdees to the Coaltown Daisies, the Clearances, the Bran Seer, the History of Dunfermline Co-op. As well as thePicardi Weavers, Gothenburg Hotels/Pubs, Scottish Inventors and the History of Limekilns. Each event concludes with refreshments at local cafés or the Abbeyview Community Hub.
The group featured in a blog on u3a sources in November 2025 https://sources.u3a.org.uk/exploring-scotlands-history-and-culture
